Keith Haring art livens up mops and brooms

Dust pans from the Keith Haring collection

The Keith Haring Cleaning Collection from Casabella uses the late artist's imagery on mops, broom, dust pans and microfiber dusting cloths. Casabella's cleaning tools, kitchen and bath accessories and organizing products have received numerous design awards and industry recognition. It also markets the BE Gourmet line of food prep.

Tagine in new colors holds 4 quarts

The Emile Henry large tagine is now available in fig and olive colors. Introduced at the Housewares show in Chicago this month, the large tagine is 12.5 inches in diameter and holds nearly 4 quarts of food (enough to serve six people).

It is made from an innovative ceramic technology that allows the vessel to be used directly on a heat source or stovetop (for browning meats and vegetables) and then can be placed in the oven for a gentle, flavor-producing simmer. The traditional tagine lid allows the steam to rise, condense on the walls and then moisten the food below.

The classic French press coffee maker

Bodum says its Chambord French press system is the greenest way to make a cup of coffee. A user pours in just as much water as she needs. There is no metal, plastic or paper waste. The coffee grounds are compostable.

Moreover, the company says the materials of the press (glass and stainless steel) are completely taste-free "so nothing comes between your ground coffee beans."

Dinnerware in stripes and solids; paper goods for Halloween

Trade Associates Group, better known as simply tag, exhibited more than 600 new items in a wide range of materials at the International Home & Housewares Show in Chicago this month. tag says many of the introductions are in stock and ready to ship.

Highlights included:

The new Sonoma Stripe

• 6 1/2" appetizer plates in 10 Sonoma dinnerware colors, with a handy new iron plate caddy (upper left). The company introduce new Sonoma Stripe in two colorways, Celadon and Chocolate, that complement the entire assortment. In addition, a rich, new Sonoma Navy colorway was shown (below).

• Handmade mosaic glass in Halloween (below); Jardin; Fall Flora and Harvest; and tag’s Christmas collections Mistletoe, Holiday Elegance, Christmas Holiday, and Hope, Peace and Joy.

4-piece knife set adds color to the kitchen

The DuraCeramica collection of colorful ceramic knives comes in four fresh colors with durable soft grip ergonomic ABS handles.
“Ceramic blades are all the rage in cutlery now for their long lasting sharpness and effortless cutting ability,” says Suso Balanza, vice president of sales for Hampton Forge. The company exhibited at the Housewares Show in Chicago.
The collection consists of a 6-inch chef knife (Raspberry Red comfort handle), a 5-inch Santoku knife (Mint Green), 5-inch serrated-blade utility knife (Lemon Yellow) and a 4-inch paring knife (Citrus Orange). The collection will be available in stores in the third quarter 2011.

Hampton Forge's new Skandia 9-piece multi-use set consists of 5 symbol-coded stainless steel knives and 3 color-coded polypropylene cutting boards. The knives are etched with symbols for proper usage: Chef, Bread, Utility, Paring and Citrus.
The cutting boards are coded in color: red for meats, green for vegetables and blue for cooked foods, breads, etc. Both the knives and cutting boards are stored in a clever metallic accented stand that keeps them organized and convenient.
The company introduced the set at the Housewares show in Chicago this month.

Homer Laughlin's new soup tureen

The Homer Laughlin China Co. unveiled the final pieces in the limited edition 75th Anniversary color Marigold collection at the International Home & Housewares Show in Chicago. The soup tureen joins the three-piece mixing bowl set (launched in 2008), the 19 ¼-inch oval serving platter (2009) and the two-piece prep baking bowl set (2010).

Available only in Marigold, just 10,000 numbered Soup Tureens will be created. Each will be numbered on the bottom of the bowl. The Soup Tureen will only be available for 75 weeks from April 1, 2011 through September 1, 2012, while quantities last. Presale starts April 1, 2011 and items will begin shipping June 1, 2011.

The four-piece soup tureen has an 11 5/8-inch round platter, a 3-quart bowl (10 ½-inch diameter, 5-inch height), lid, and stainless steel ladle with a ceramic handle. The round platter is embossed with the Fiesta logo and the 75th Anniversary logo.

Well-designed and stylish housewares from Mexico

At the Housewares show in Chicago this month, Sogbo will present 25 new products in what it calls "A Revolution of Home Products.” The Mexico-based source offers housewares, furniture, textiles, barware, kitchen accessories and furniture. Catalogs are available on the company's website.

Eco-friendly kitchen gadget promotes water savings

The Dish Squeegee from the AM Conservation Group is said to make doing the dishes simple, fast and eco-friendly (because it eliminates pre-rinsing dishes prior to loading them into a dish washer.
Use the squeegee to push leftovers into a garbage pail or disposal (or better yet, compost nonmeat waste). The three-side shape of the product makes it usable for all sizes of pots, pans, dishes, cups and jars. The 100% silicone scraper won't scratch dishes.

Tervis celebrates 65th anniversary

Tervis is moving into a new permanent showroom in the Dallas Trade Mart (Suite 1034). To celebrate its 65th birthday, the company invites retailers to join it for a “birthday cake cocktail” and enter to win give-a-ways.making a splash in 2011. the date is Jan. 21 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Robotic cleaning machine

Mint is a robotic cleaning machine for hard-surface floors from Evolution Robotics. It automatically dusts and mops floors with the press of a button. The appliance works with cloths like Swiffer and Pledge dry and west cloths. In mop mode, a special cleaning motion dissolves and wipes up dirt and grime.

Mint cleans quietly for three or more hours on a single charge. It is low-maintenance; there are no bins to empty or filters to replace. It measures about 10 inches wide and about 3 inches tall.

Karim Rashid cutting tools for kitchen, home office

The aptly named Slice offers a wide range of tools for peeling vegetables, opening mail (above) and cutting paper. All but the letter opener are designed by Karim Rashid (see below). The items use ceramics for cutting, which stays sharper than high-carbon steel, the company says.

Colorful wine carafes

Fiduz Design from Denmark launched its colorful bag-in-box wine carafes at the Housewares Show in Chicago this month. The "egg" is an alternative to serving wine from a box. Just remove the bag and place inside the dispenser. The base is detachable for cleaning. The product is available in eight colors.
