Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet, A Family Friendly Movie

National Velvet

If you have never seen National Velvet, you really should lay your hands on a copy and set aside a couple of hours to watch it. Released in 1944 when Elizabeth Taylor was just 12, it is a heartwarming story of a young girl who wins a difficult horse in a lottery. She then runs across a wayward youth (Mickey Rooney) who knows how to train horses. Together they get the horse ready for the Grand Nationals in England.

Grab a bowl of popcorn and watch this movie with your kids or grandkids. If you have a horse lover in the bunch, they will be sure to love National Velvet. This movie is very well priced at Amazon and a perfect stocking stuffer for a person who is crazy about horses.
It is interesting to see the beautiful Elizabeth Taylor in a movie where she is young and innocent, and also the young Angela Lansbury who plays Velvet's sister.

For the dedicated horse movie fan here is another way to purchase National Velvet. It comes here packaged with 3 other classic horse movies.

Wizard of Oz T-Shirts

What an exciting discovery I had this week when I discovered that they are remaking The Wizard of Oz movie in 3D! I am not actually sure that I am in love with the idea because we all know what Hollywood can do to a good movie but I guess I am willing to give it a chance.

My reading about the rumors surrounding this new movie led me to another great find...a selection of Wizard of Oz t-shirts. If you love the original movie as much as I, or if someone you love loves the movie as much as I, a Wizard-themed tee would be a great gift idea.

Personally, I have a birthday coming up. I am not saying which birthday but I am willing to say that when I grew up one of the highlights of our year once a year, every year, was to watch The Wizard of Oz movie when it came on television. Anyway, I think one of these t-shirts would be a top-rated gift choice for any woman who has a history with The Wiz, as I do, or even for any new fan of The Wizard of Oz.

Can you think of someone else who would love one of these fabulous t-shirts? I can...

Valentine's Day Movie Soundtrack

If the all-star cast has you (or someone you love) excited about the new Valentine's Day movie, you might want to check out the Valentine's Day movie soundtrack. As a matter of fact, with its wonderful mix of artists, I think it would be an amazing Valentine's Day gift for the loved one on your list.

Artist names that I recognize on the playlist include Taylor Swift, Willie Nelson, Jewel, Amy Winehouse, Maroon 5, Joss Stone, Nat King Cole and Steel Magnolia. Other names that are not familiar to me but may be to you include Michael Franti & Spearhead, Jools Holland and Jamiroquai, Sausalito Foxtrot, Ben E. King, Diane Birch, Black Gold, Leighton Meester with Robin Thicke, The Bird and the Bee and Anju Ramapriyam.

Why not wrap this CD in pink and add a couple of movie tickets to the Valentine's Day movie? A wonderfully romantic gift which arrives in theatres on February 12th, just in time for Valentine's Day.
